Diabetes and Obesity relief?

(this from a power point presentation I have designed)

  • How to get Healthy
  • First let’s define Health=
  • Dictionary
  • the state of being free from illness or injury.
  • a person’s mental or physical condition.
  • I believe Health is the balance of a persons
  • physical
  • mental ,
  • Emotional
  • spiritual well being!
  • So poor health is
  • An imbalance of the person
  • Physically
  • Mentally
  • Emotionally
  • Spiritually
  • So to restore health you need to find the cause of the imbalance

  • How do you find the cause
  • Talk to you the patient and find out what happened (I take 1 hour for an first appointment).
  • Try to find the root cause of your poor health
  • Then maybe run tests to confirm my suspicions
  • Blood tests
  • Food Sensitivity tests
  • Treatment prior to test results coming back
  • While we wait for test results or maybe we do not need to run any tests, I will often prescribe simple changes where possible.
  • Add healthy foods
  • Drink water
  • Move/exercise
  • 1 or supplements to help the main concern for why you came.
  • Breathing or emotional freedom info (tapping)
  • Detoxify
  • Why do I try these simple changes
  • Adding foods can
  • Eliminate pain by adding more fruits and vegetables.
  • Increase energy
  • Move the bowels
  • Improve moods
  • Balance blood sugar, weight and reduce pain
  • Why do I try these simple changes
  • Drink water, why?
  • Water can heal you on it’s own because
  • Up to 60% of the human adult body is water.
  • brain and heart =73% water,
  • lungs =83% water.
  • skin =64% water
  • muscles and kidneys =79% water
  • bones = 31% water

  • Water for pain Relief
  • Write down how bad the pain is out of 10.
  • Then drink a bottle of water (=2 glasses) and see what the pain is like in ½ hour.
  • If no change,
  • drink ½ bottle of water (=1 glass) every ½ hour for up to 3 hours or if pain is tolerable stop before 3 hours.
  • Most pains are cut in half within 30 minutes!

  • Movement
  • Move/exercise
  • Improves sleep- getting to and quality of sleep.
  • Improves mood and mental health.
  • Reduces Heart Disease and Cancer risk.
  • Helps weight loss or maintains your weight.
  • Decreases the risk of Type II diabetes.
  • Strengthens your bones and muscles.
  • Decreases stress.
  • (# 1 cause of disease- up to 80% of patients reported uncommon emotional stress before disease onset. Autoimmune Reviews. 2008 Jan;7(3):209-13)
  • Increases Your chances of living longer!!

  • Supplements or herbs are used to:
  • To help restore you of re-balance the main concern for why you came.
  • Magnesium for constipation

  • Castor oil and calendula to dissolve scars.
  • Blood sugar lowered with chromium or gymnema
  • Decrease high blood pressure with herbs.
  • Low B-12
  • Low Iron

  • Breathing or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) info (tapping)
  • Breathing to reduce stress, anxiety or fall asleep
  • Breathing –using Diaphragmatic breathing or deep breathing where air enters the lungs and the chest rises and the belly expands during this type of breathing.
  • Breathe in for 8 seconds
  • Hold for 8 seconds
  • Release for 8 seconds.
  • Repeat until relaxed.   If need energy hold breath for 16 seconds.

  • Emotional freedom info (tapping)- demonstrate
  • EFT is very easy to learn, and will help you:
  • Remove Negative Emotions
  • Reduce Food Cravings
  • Reduce or Eliminate Pain
  • Implement Positive Goals
  • EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments, but without the invasiveness of needles.
  • Simple tapping with the fingertips onto specific spots on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem – and voice positive affirmations.
  • This tapping and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the emotional block – from your body –thus restoring your mind and body’s balance to optimal health.

  • Detoxify
  • This is a whole other lecture!
  • In short
  • To detoxify means to eat less so the body has a chance to repair.
  • Extreme Detox=Fasting
  • is one of the oldest therapeutic practices in medicine.
  • Hippocrates, the ancient Greek known as the “Father of Western medicine,” recommended fasting as a means for improving health.
  • Detoxifying
  • Is the process of eliminating and metabolizing unwanted chemical compounds (toxins) that can disrupt normal bodily functions.
  • To eliminate these toxins so that normal function may begin in the organs or systems being affected.
  • Toxin is anything that causes irritation, harm or destruction in the body.
  • Toxins can come from external and internal sources (i.e. Food, Chemical, Liquid, Air).

  • Healthy Weight Loss
  • You need to build on the positive
  • Example of Someone with Excess Weight:
  • Mental Health/Thinking is good = 20/25
  • Emotional Health is good = 21/25
  • Spiritual Health is contented = 22/25
  • Physical Healthà More Weight than we want & has Sore Joints and Love Handles= 13/25

  • What is our true Health Rating= 76/100= 76%
  • Which is good…..
  • Versus “Oh my Good I’m Obese”= a Big STRESS
  • Stress can cause you to gain or lose weight
  • Sudden, noticeable weight loss can happen after a stressful event, although it can also be a sign of a serious illness.
  • It’s normal to lose a noticeable amount of weight after the stress of changing jobs, divorce, redundancy or bereavement.
  • Weight gain can follow the loss and/or may also be due to the stress becoming chronic.
  • This can lead to an increase in the stress hormone called Cortisol (hormones are chemical messengers).

  • Weight Gain and Stress
  • The bottom line?
  • “More stress = more cortisol = higher appetite for junk food = more belly fat,”
  • What is going on?
  • STRESS= Elevated cortisol..
  • body will not let go of weight…
  • thinks you’re in danger & needs the reserves
  • Leads to Pancreas and Liver working poorly
  • Insulin and Sugar levels are messed up-creates carb/sugar cravings and possibly Diabetes (coming up soon)

  • What Else is going on?
  • Low
  • Iron,
  • B-6 (i.e. low Protein intake crave carbs),
  • B-12,
  • Folic Acid,
  • Mal-absorption, Parasites, POOR DIGESTION,
  • Mineral Imbalances (low Chromium, Magnesium, or Zinc)  makes you tired so you eat.
  • Adrenal Glands (Make adrenaline and other hormones  if shot your exhausted and try to eat for energy).
  • Food Sensitivities and on and on……

  • Real Change in Weight Loss
  • The Only way to change a behavior that seems to work is to:
  • Substitute an alternative behavior for the problem behavior
  • The behavior needs to be replaced with a behavior you enjoy to be maintained!?!
  • Replace overeating Food with exercise, positive affirmation, relaxation, healthier foods, hugs… etc…
  • Weight Loss 101- simple ways to lose weight- Take 1

  • What is Diabetes?
  • Diabetes= Any disorder characterized by excessive urine excretion.
  • Over 6 Million people in Canada have Diabetes (9.2%)
  • As many as 11 million (29%) have pre-diabetes.
  • Cost to health-care system= $3.4 billion
  • Almost 1 in 3 Canadians have or will become diabetic!!!
  • Diabetes reduces lifespan by 5–15 years.
  • Diabetes is also associated with
  • Depression, Blindness, Foot ulceration, kidney & heart disease.

Type I Diabetes

  • Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells of the pancreas.
  • And the pancreas is unable to produce insulin.
  • Sugar builds up in the blood instead of being transported by insulin into cells and used as energy.
  • Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence, but can develop in adulthood.
  • Type 1 diabetes is always treated with insulin.
  • Approximately 10 % of people with diabetes have type 1 diabetes.
  • AKA Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM)

  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • 90 % of diabetics have type 2 diabetes,
  • which is easily treatable, naturally.
  • This can occur when the
  • pancreas does not produce enough insulin or
  • when the body does not effectively use the insulin that is produced.
  • Problem is with the body= NEEDS REPAIR!
  • Type 2 diabetes usually develops in adulthood,
  • AKA Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM)
  • Diabetes can lead to Problems
  • If left untreated or improperly managed, diabetes can result in complications, such as:
  • Vision Loss
  • Nerve damage= Peripheral neuropathy- burning feet
  • Heart disease
  • Impotence
  • Kidney disease which can actually be corrected by whey or vegetarian protein in diabetics.
  • Question: Are these all the same disease!?
  • Reversing Diabetes
  • A diabetic person’s system is out of balance, and therefore …
  • Reversing diabetes involves re-balancing the diabetic patient.
  • So you really need to look at the person
  • physically,
  • mental, emotional and spiritual stresses.
  • These stresses lead to inflammation which can damage organs such as the pancreas (which you will see shortly)
  • Diabetes-Emotionally (From Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Emotional stresses (Traditional Chinese Medicine)

  • Anger can affect the Liver=
  • leads to a difficulty balancing blood sugar….
  • Anxiety or Thinking Too Much affects Pancreas=
  • pancreas makes insulin which lowers blood sugar. IF “pancreas is stressed” sugar can rise.
  • Solution to repair pancreas=consider a Pancreas Glandular or Extract may possibly help.
  • N.B. The pancreas also helps digest your food!!

  • Reversing Diabetes
  • Therefore, one area that is critical to reversing diabetes is digestion.
  • By improving digestion the patients pancreas is less stressed, both physically and then emotionally, because as they get healthier they change the way they see themselves
  • So their anger, anxiety and thinking too much will decrease as the body goes back into balance, and therefore their
  • Energy, sleep and overall well-being improve.
  • Reversing Diabetes
  • Type II easier to rebalance than a Type I,
  • because it is rebalanced by digestion, diet, lifestyle and supplements.
  • Lifestyle will also include how you feel
  • Physically Walking/Exercise ability,
  • Energy,
  • Digestion,
  • sleep, etc..
  • This is one area I will help you with. I can also help with…
  • Rebalancing a Type I diabetic
  • So that they use less insulin in true type one or
  • Go back to being non-insulin dependant if they were a Type II before
  • Some resources for you to read or watch include:

  • Why do I say this??
  • Because Every disease you treat by addressing digestion, diet and lifestyle plus other things which I’ll touch on later has one common resultant: The Patient Feels Better:
  • More energy, Better sleep, less pain, happier!
  • How Does this Magically Happen
  • You need to find the cause.

  • What does this mean?
  • It means you have to know what you are dealing with:
